Cloud was a browser-based operating system created by Good OS LLC, a Los Angeles-based corporation. The company initially launched a Linux distribution called gOS which is heavily based on Ubuntu, now in its third incarnation.
A cloud OS is a kind of lightweight operating system that stores data and can access Web-based applications from a remote server. It is designed to manage the operation, execution, and process of virtual machines, virtual servers, and virtual infrastructure and used as a backend hardware and software resource.
From Cloud the user can quickly boot into the main OS, because Cloud continues booting the main OS in the background. Combining a browser with a basic operating system allows the use of cloud computing, in which applications and data "live and run" on the Internet instead of the hard drive.
Typically, a company would host or keep servers on their premises and maintain them. These servers allow them to run web applications. They need an operating system, too. Cloud computing brought a revolution in IT, by cutting costs for users.
The cloud is simply a collection of servers housed in massive, acre-filling complexes and owned by some of the world's largest corporations. This essentially means that our data sits on computers we don't have access to. Microsoft, Amazon and Apple have all invested huge sums in creating homes for our personal data.
