SMART Metering—Requires SMART Technology
The potential benefits of smart metering and smart grids are now quite well known and enunciated but the technical issues surrounding deployment of the technology remain. Pilot roll-outs and even full scale roll-outs are underway (example ENEL in Italy rolling out 30 million smart meters). Part of technical challenge lies in the collection, validation and transformation of data from millions of meters so that the benefits can actually be extracted from such an investment.
