VLSI IMPLEMENTATION OF ANALOG SIGNAL PROCESSING BLOCKS

In modern day signal processing, DSP holds sway mainly because of its accuracy and also due to its simplicity. So the analog signal which we get from the real world is digitized as early as possible in the link and then DSP techniques are applied to manipulate and process the data. But at times some of the processing can be conveniently done in the analog domain. For example taking average or difference of two values can be easily done using switches and capacitors. Again multiplying by a fixed ratio can be realized using a resistor divider arrangement. So we can avoid a lot of cumbersome digital processors by intelligently applying analog and mixed-signal techniques. This thesis explores one such novel technique for computing transforms like DCT/DST in mixed-signal domain and also more conventional mixed signal designs like switched capacitor filters. Special attention is given to noise analysis of such systems.
